Entry 7 : Rules for a New School Year (1903)
Now that school has begun, it might be useful to go over some of the rules at St. Mary School.
1. It is the duty of Catholic parents to send their children to a Catholic school. Godless education is a scourge to the child and the commonwealth.
2. There will be no throwing of stones, fighting or vile language on the way to and from school.
3. Parents are bound by justice and charity to keep their children home when a contagious or infectious disease is raging in their family.
4. Barring cases of sickness, no child will be permitted to go “up street’ or home during school hours.
5. Admittance to school-rooms is denied to all agents and advertisers.
6. Parents are warned against believing every complaint against teachers and other school authorities.
7. No child will be admitted to the Communion class who has not given satisfactory proof of virtue.
8. Tuition for pupils of four lower rooms 25 cents per month, all others 50 cents per month.
9. All reasonable complaints lodged in a spirit of charity will receive due consideration. ”Der St. Marien Kinderfreund”, August 1903.
