Getting Married in Our Church?

"The sacrament of Matrimony signifies the union of Christ and the Church. It gives spouses the grace to love each other with the love with which Christ has loved his Church; the grace of the sacrament thus perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens their indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life." (CCC 1661)

The Sacrament of Matrimony, or marriage, is a unique sacrament because it is the man and the woman that mutually administers the sacrament upon each other in the presence of a priest or deacon and other witnesses.

It is a sacred covenant, a public promise made by the husband and the wife to be true to each other until death parts them. In order for a marriage to be valid, the couple must be entering into the covenant out of their own free will, without fear or coercion. They are also asked to honor and be true to each other for the rest of their lives, as well as to accept children lovingly from God and bring them up according to the law of Christ and His Church.

For initial inquiries about scheduling a wedding and/or Marriage Preparation, please contact Chelsea Crosby, Wedding Preparation Coordinator ([email protected]) at least nine months prior to the desired date.

Please contact us before you make any other wedding plans (e.g., receptions) as some couples in the past have made the mistake of booking reception venues before St. Mary’s, only to find that other marriages were already scheduled here for the same desired date and/or time.

Weddings are not celebrated on Sundays, Holy Days (Jan.1, Aug. 15, Nov. 1, and Dec. 8), some holiday weekends, or on the eve of major holidays (e.g., New Year, Christmas). We do not schedule weddings during the second weekend of August due to our parish festival. Weddings are discouraged during Lent and Advent. In addition, weddings (nuptial Masses) are prohibited during the Octave of Christmas and the Octave of Easter.

Please read our wedding guidelines for more information about the marriage formation process, fees for getting married at St. Mary's, and the wedding planning process. These wedding guidelines will serve to inform you of our wedding policies and expectations.  They have been prepared so that your marriage in our parish will be in conformity with the Church’s understanding of Christian Marriage and Columbus Diocesan Guidelines.
