Our History:
The South Side Community Ministries Food Pantry was incorporated in 1977 by several Merion Village churches, and was granted a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization status. The pantry has been located at St. Paul United Church of Christ (UCC), 225 East Gates Street, Columbus, Ohio, since 1984.
All pantry food is purchased through the Mid-Ohio Food Bank or donated by individuals, churches, and other organizations. Pantry storage shelves, refrigerators and freezers were provided by a grant from the Children’s Hunger Alliance and the Walmart Foundation. For many years we have worked with the City of Columbus and local social service organizations to bring information on community outreach programs available to our clients who qualify.
We are a 100% volunteer agency, and rely on the help of volunteers for all funding, food/ item donations, and curbside distribution services for our clients. Three St. Mary’s parishioners are on the board of SSCM, and several more assist in a variety of roles, if you would like to get involved, please read the information below:
The SSCM Food Pantry is open Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays for food distribution from Noon - 2:30 pm during the last full week of the month.
(We are only open one week per month)
We are in need of volunteers to help pack to-go boxes, serve on days we’re open (see above), someone to help fix various things in the facility (painting/ hanging signs), and volunteers to help with delivery.
*** For all clients: We take walk-ins. No need to register! At this time, we provided curbside service **
Contact Mary Kelly Minner with any inquiries, donation needs, and volunteer opportunities.
